Foil Drive Board 5′ 2″ Trench

Yes,… we at Stinger are now offering our 2025 Foil Drive (FD) boards with the FD “TRENCH”.

Over the last few months of 2024 we not only refined the FD board shape with 5 major design changes, we added the “Trench” and one construction addition – adding Bamboo veneer under the deck pad.

Here’s what we did;

1st, we refined the shape with the advice of Foil Drive owner Paul Cooper and National Sales Manager Travis Murphy, as well we had a few Riders on Oahu & in Hood River help out. The consensus was to widen the bottom platform which makes for even faster plane up speed by having straighter lines from tip to tail, this also allowed us to shorten the board by 3”.

Secondly, we pulled in the tail end considerably, allowing for quicker turns, resulting in a more manoeuvrable board.

Third major change was creating a double concave in the front, this helps break the surface tension and has a quicker release on touch downs.

The fourth major change was rolling off the rear deck, this has two applications, one it allows the water on the top to flow off better and secondly the board is more comfortable on the thighs when lying on it.

Last but by no way least, we created the “Trench”, so the top of your Foil Drive unit sits flush with the bottom of the board. Board speed is increased as there’s less drag, so you’re up on foil faster than ever. Although the trench is very labour intensive to manufacture, it’s well worth the investment.

When it comes to the construction of our hand crafted Foil Drive boards, we strive to use the finest materials available to us, we are proud to tell you how we lay up our boards.
We start with a “V2” recycled EPS Canadian Foam blank, once shaped a 20lb Foil Box Cassette with 11” Foil Tracks is installed, then a 3k 6oz Carbon standing zone & foil box patches are put on, after that a Full 3k 6oz Carbon top and bottom layer is laminated on, (new for 2025) a bamboo veneer standing zone patch is applied, then a full 6oz S-Glass top and bottom layer is glassed on.

The most critical noteworthy thing is the “Connectivity Window”. We started installing them last year with the full Carbon construction. It’s located in the nose area on the deck of the board. Simply put, if you have a full carbon board, it better have a window…. it allows the bluetooth signal to get out of the board. Like going through a tunnel and there’s a man-hole to let air out, we make our window a 2 1/2” hole.
(Nice to see other brands doing the same connectivity window now.)

They all have a Goretex Vent Valve, so your board doesn’t expand in the heat, but we still recommend not leaving it out in the sun, at least…. put it in a board bag.
Leash Plug, granted that’s a given but you’d be surprised how many builders charge extra for a plug.
Honey Comb grip traction pad, super comfortable with great grip.
